Complete the Requirement Without Leaving Confused
Maryland-Focused Instruction
The Maryland Wear & Carry course is more than a generic firearms class.
New applicants who are not exempt currently need at least 16 hours of approved firearms safety training taught by a Maryland Qualified Handgun Instructor.
The training addresses Maryland-required subject areas while giving students room to ask questions and understand why the information matters.
Required Live-Fire Qualification
Maryland requires applicants to demonstrate firearm safety and proficiency.
For most civilian applicants, the current Basic Practical Handgun Course requires at least 25 rounds, fired from no farther than 15 yards, with a minimum 70% accuracy score.
The goal isn't to turn the qualification into something intimidating.
It's to make sure you understand what is expected before you step onto the range.
Beginner-Friendly Instruction
Some students arrive with years of handgun experience.
Others are still learning the basics.
You will not be expected to pretend you know something you don't.
Questions are part of the process, and instruction is designed to remain professional and approachable at different experience levels.
Completion Documentation
After successful completion of the required training and qualification, Maryland requires a completed MSP 29-14 Certified Qualification Score Sheet as part of the Wear & Carry application.
Your training documentation supports the training portion of the process.
It does not guarantee permit approval.
Clear Next Steps
Training is only one part of the Maryland application process.
Maryland currently requires eligible applicants to complete the online application process through the Licensing Portal and, unless exempt, submit Maryland-approved LiveScan fingerprints, a passport-style photo, and the required training documentation.
We'll point you toward the appropriate official resources so you know where to continue.
Patient. Professional. Clear.
Sixteen hours is a significant commitment.
The experience should help you understand the material—not simply count down the time until the certificate.
More Than Sitting Through 16 Hours
Maryland defines the minimum training requirement.
The quality of the learning experience still matters.
Tactical Trash Pandas approaches permit training as a professional starting point for responsible firearm ownership and concealed carry.
That means explaining important concepts clearly, maintaining a structured learning environment, and helping students understand what the training does—and does not—prepare them to do.
You do not need to become a tactical expert.
You should leave more informed, more comfortable with the process, and clearer about what comes next.
