Maryland Wear & Carry Training
(MD CCW, Maryland Carry Permit class)
You want to carry with confidence. You want simple steps. You want real skills you can use in Rockville, Silver Spring, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Germantown, College Park, Hyattsville, Bowie, Laurel, Waldorf, Annapolis, and the rest of Maryland. That’s what this Maryland Wear & Carry Training (W&C) page is about.
A quick story. A small shop owner in Hyattsville told me he felt fear and uncertainty after a late-night incident near his store. He was worried about overwhelmed by gun laws and making a wrong turn with carry rules. We set a training pathway (beginner → advanced). We worked on safe holster selection, draw stroke efficiency, and post-incident procedures. He now runs short dryfire diagnostics at home, tracks par times & standards, and follows data-driven practice plans. He said, “I went from first-time gun owner anxiety to from fear to confident protector.”
What you get in our Maryland Wear & Carry class
State-required training. Maryland calls for 16 hours for your first permit and 8 hours for renewals. You train with a Qualified Handgun Instructor. You learn law, safety, and do a live-fire test with a passing score. We keep it clear and friendly.
Plain talk on the law. We cover use of force continuum, de-escalation & avoidance, transport & storage compliance, gun-free zones and restrictions, and how to read official updates. We link you to the Maryland State Police (MSP) Licensing Division and the MSP application portal so you can check any detail yourself.
Carry habits for real life. We practice movement off the X, use of cover & concealment, low-light / handheld light techniques, malfunctions clearance (tap-rack), and reloads (emergency/tactical). These are stress-tested drills. We want performance under pressure.
Format: classroom + live-fire (classroom + live-fire). Certificate included for your permit steps. Small class size. Beginner friendly.

Local context that matters (and why we train this way)
Maryland’s carry rules have changed in recent years. Parts of the 2023 “sensitive places” law were blocked or limited by courts, and guidance keeps moving. We’ll show you how to read plain-language updates before you go to work, church, or a game.
Want local safety data? Montgomery County Police share annual and live dashboards so you can check neighborhood-level info in places like Wheaton, Aspen Hill, or East County. Prince George’s County Police publish crime info and daily reporting tools. Use these before late shopping runs or weekend events.

Neighborhood notes (Maryland spots we talk about)

College Park & Hyattsville: college corridors and small-business strips. We set simple home defense planning and workplace violence prevention steps.
Bowie & Laurel: retail clusters with parking sprawl. We use shot accountability ideas and throttle control at the range.
Waldorf & Annapolis: weekend crowds and mall areas. We drill target transitions and clean draw-to-first-shot reps.

Secondary Categories
2) Self-defense school
Some folks want non-gun skills first. Smart move. We teach situational awareness course skills for daily life. Think Metro lots in Silver Spring, late shows in Bethesda, or shopping runs in Bowie. We set easy drills for path choices, door control, and verbal skills. We teach de-escalation & avoidance and simple home defense planning with family roles and safe words. If you carry later, these habits boost confidence under stress.
3) Emergency training school
We pair shooting with emergency medical / TCCC basics. You learn bleeding control, airway basics, and how to stage a small kit in your car. We walk through medical considerations / TCCC phases and practice simple steps you can use at the mall or at church. I tell students, “A tourniquet and a light ride with you more than your gun.” We also show you where to find county reports and how to file or check info after an event.
4) Training center
Think of us as your year-round training center. Start with beginner handgun safety & shooting. Add intermediate pistol skills and defensive pistol training. Tag in AR-15 basics (carbine 1) or virtual range simulator drills when the weather is bad. Get on our monthly skill-building classes and track progress with skills check & progress tracking. Members use our A Year of Training calendar & drills, join community board access, and stay steady all year.
5) Consultant
You may need a custom plan. We consult for workplace violence prevention, corporate risk mitigation training, and corporate packages & retainers. We also build church safety team program plans. We walk your floor, mark low-light spots, plan routes to parking, set drills, and coach leaders. If your team travels through DC or Northern Virginia, we lay out multi-state concealed carry training steps and link to official MSP pages for any Maryland part.
